During your stay near the Arcachon Basin in the southwest of France, just 1 hour and 15 minutes from Bordeaux, don’t miss the opportunity to visit an authentic fishing district: Le Canon. Located on the Lège-Cap-Ferret peninsula, this gem is a must-see for holidays in the region, and this exceptional oyster-farming village is well worth the detour.
Exploring the Village of Le Canon in Lège-Cap-Ferret
Le Canon is one of the 10 villages that make up Lège-Cap-Ferret, the peninsula that lines the entire western edge of the Arcachon Basin. Take the time to explore it during your stay at our Arcachon campsite with a pool. The village owes its name to a large cast-iron cannon that once fortified the area against potential English landings in France during the Revolution and the First Empire. While the cannon has since been relocated to the garden of the Villa Algérienne, the village has retained the charm of its fishing heritage. Here, you’ll find sunny little beaches and a sheltered marina for pleasure boats.
